O’Halloran, who won the event in 2009, is expected to dominate this year’s triathlon offering total prize money of RM55,000.

Attractive prizes: Organisers and sponsors at the launch of the Kenyir International Triathlon.
It is organised by the Terengganu Tengah Development Authority (Ketengah).
Ketengah general manager Hamzah Ngah said they expected about 350 participants for the event.
“We have received confirmation from 186 participants. They are from 11 countries — Belgium, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Spain, England, America, Macau, Hong Kong, Thailand and Canada,
“Participants will have to swim 1.5km, cycle 40km and run 10km in the event,” said Hamzah at the launch in Olympic Hotel in KL recently.
The Kenyir Festival will have Entrepreneur Carnival, Asean Chicken competition, Jet Ski competitions, Dragon Boat Race, Terengganu Schools Brand competition, cooking competition, Armed Forces demonstration, Tomoi competition and a hot air balloon competition among the activities at Lake Kenyir.
Hamzah added that the aim for the event was to promote Lake Kenyir as a tourist destination.
“Lake Kenyir has a concept of being an Aqua-Eco gateaway. We hope the triathlon will attract more tourists,’’ he said.
The event has nine categories and the organisers have introduced a category — Terengganu Closed — for Terengganu residents.
Among the sponsors are Brooks, LeRun, PowerBar, Milo, 100Plus and Ice Mountain.
Entries close on April 1. For more information, visit www.triathlonmalaysia.com or call Chan Chee Seng at 012-225 3243.
